Background:
Taiwan started to promote AIDS case manager program since 2007, and began cultivating AIDS case managers to promote their professional competencies and to establish an effective AIDS case management system, The AIDS-associated Society (such as: Taiwan AIDS Society, the AIDS Nursing Association, etc.) and major hospitals hold lots of continuing education training courses about AIDS cares.HIV case managers is to provide holistic care for HIV patients in a professional role. However, the systems of AIDS case managers in Taiwan are not complete, and the competencies of HIV case managers are not to defined clearly yet.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to survey the core competencies in HIV case managers through senior case managers, experts and scholars, this research result are serve as reference for the development of future talent.
Methods:
This is a Delphi technique study. We will use cross-section survey to collect datas from a sample of AIDS case Management program directors (Department of Infectious Diseases, senior attending physician), the specialists of AIDS case management and senior AIDS case managers, each of group have 5 people, a totally sample size is15 in this study. The questionnaire included 18 items of core competencies seperated into 9 dimensions and 5 Liker scales was used, the higher the score, the more importance it was. The descriptive statistical to analysis the research results.
Result:
The results showed that two rounds of questionnaires to obtain 9 dimensions and18 core competencies, which 13 items(72%) standard deviation is less than or equal to the previous round, 9 items(50%) interquartile range is less than or equal to 0.0. In this study analysis, the most five important core competencies include: be able to understand and respect the culture and values of MSM / drug users populations and protect their privacy; be able to do and record comprehensive assessment by talking with the cases; be able to assess the needs of the case and assist them to research the resources they need; be able to seek the resourse immediately when emergency situation happen; be able to assist cases to inform HIV disease to their family or partners and give them mental support. the results of this study can be refer to plan tranning program of HIV case managers and develope of future talent.
