The aim of this study is to discuss the effect of self-learning DVD on nurses caring for Incontinent-associated dermatitis (IAD) patients in the ICU.
Method: A total of eighty nurses were enrolled from the intensive care unit of Taipei medical hospital. Forty nurses were in the experimental group who accepted a 2 weeks multimedia assisted instruction. Forty nurses in the control group continued the routine care. Both groups received a pre and post tests prior to the study. Date was analyzed by SPSS 21.0 software package with deductive statistics, frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, ANCOVA statistical analysis and other methods. The result showed: (1) The knowledge associated with IAD was significantly higher in the experimental group. (2) The attitude associated with caring for IAD patient showed no difference upon post-tests in both groups. (3) The behavior associated with caring for IAD patients was higher in the experimental group, although not significant. (4) The behavior check-list scores were higher in the post-tests in both groups. Therefore, the multimedia self-learning method enhanced the learning efficiency in the ICU nurses, which is in line with the on-the-job training provided by the hospital. This study recommended future researches related to the “multimedia self-learning CD” should be focused on information process theory, multimedia learning cognitive theory, annotate instructional and learner-centered deign. It is also recommended to increase Clinical negative examples on attitude, so that students can have the opportunity to reflect. Broadening the research object, adopt the long-tern tracking method to evaluate the efficiency on the multimedia self-learning method in caring for IAD patients.
