[ Abstract ]

Aesthetic medicine industry has developed rapidly in nearly 10 years, however, there is no regulation for aesthetic medicine employee (aesthetic medical nurse, aesthetic medicine consultant, and aesthetic medicine beautician) for their’s job qualification and in-service training .Therefore, there was few empirical research data on aesthetic medicine education and training. The purposes of this study were to investigate the training needs of the aesthetic medicine employees and the difference between their training needs on the training courses, the number of hours of teaching and teaching methods among these three groups.
A cross - sectional design was conducted in this study. The samples of this study were 925 the aesthetic medicine employees who worked at the north and central area of aesthetic medicine institute, including medical centers, regional hospitals, local hospitals and clinics, in Taiwan. A “Study of Training Needs of Aesthetic Medicine Employees Questionnaire” was developed for the research tool. A total of 290 aesthetic medicine employees ( 33 %) including 104 aesthetic medical nurses, 66 aesthetic medicine consultants , 120 aesthetic medicine beauticians completed the the training needs assessment questionnaires. The data of the questionnaires was analyzed with SPSS22.0, including descriptive statistics (means, standard deviation, percentage) and one way ANOVA.
The results of this study were: (1) the training courses include 6 topics: medical knowledge’, nursing professionalism, aesthetic medicine knowledge, beauty skills, communication skills and business marketing knowledge. The highest training need topic ranked by all these three groups was ‘communication skills’. The 2nd highest training need topic ranked by aesthetic medical nurses was ‘nursing professionalism’ and by aesthetic medicine consultants and aesthetic medicine beauticians was ‘aesthetic medicine knowledge’(2)In terms of the teaching hours, aesthetic medical nurses needed more teaching hours(7.04±5.28)in ‘nursing professionalism ‘than aesthetic medicine beauticians needed(4.99±3.56)(F=5.76, p < .05);Aesthetic medicine beauticians needed more teaching hours in‘beauty skills’」(5.65±3.39)than aesthetic medicine consultants needed(4.45±2.76)(F=2.466, p < .10)of teaching hours demand ,There was no difference among these three groups in the other 4 topics; (3)In terms of the teaching methods, lecture style was the most preference by the participants in the topics of medical knowledge, aesthetic medicine knowledge, communication skills, business marketing knowledge.Demonstrating practice teaching method was the most preference by the participants in the topics of nursing professional, beauty skills.(4)The higher education background participants needed more on the topic of ‘medical knowledge'; The participants worked in the medical centers needed more training hours than those in the regional hospitals and clinics.
We suggest the aesthetic medicine institutes should focus on the topic of ‘communication skills’ in the aesthetic medicine employee education training program to facilitate the employee to have better interaction and communication with the comsumors. We expect the results of this study may provide a reference for aesthetic medicine institutes to design training education for their employee.
