Background:
The Interprofessional Practice care model provides patient-centered care and
improves the quality of care. However, the current Interprofessional education (IPE)
bases on teaching plans or simulation training program within fixed schedules and
locations, which is one-way communication without interaction.
Furthermore,it indicates that the health professions can not deal with individual problems immediately.
Objective:
This study aims to determine the learning attitude and effectiveness of Interprofessional practice in General Surgery Healthcare Professionals by constructing an online forum for IPE.
Methods:
This study adopts an experimental design of one-group pretest-posttest by the
purposive sampling, from a medical center of Taipei City, Taiwan, which includes
61 participants of General Surgery Healthcare Professionals.
There is a facilitator to encourage peer to share their professional perspectives,
and facilitate communication.The participants’ learning attitude will be assessed on
Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) in pretest and posttest by platform. Moreover, participants also complete the satisfaction questionnaires about their using experience. Using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, and independent sample t-test analysis the changes of participates’ learning attitudes towards using online forum.
Pearson correlation coefficient is used to analysis personal background characteristics
between Interprofessional Practice learning attitude and satisfaction.
Finally using a stepwise regression analysis to predict the learning attitude and satisfaction of Online Forum is correlated.
Results:
The participates’ learning attitude have changed significant after using online forum.
There is a positive and weak correlation between work experience and the subscale of
“Role and Responsibilities”. The post-test learning attitude especially in
“Positive Professional Identity” can effectively predict the satisfaction of participants
with online forum. Moreover, participants give online forum the positive evaluation.
Conclusion:
The results of the study can be referred to other department and centers.
