[ Abstract ]
The purpose of this study was to understand the worksite staffs’ need and affected factors of cancer health information. We used “The Questionnaire of Need Assessment of Cancer Health Information among Staffs in the Worksite” based on the method of cross-sectional investigation. The Cronbach’s α of this Questionnaire was 0.94 and content validity index(CVI)valued by experts was 0.91. We had sent 425 questionnaires to staffs of a local district of Taipower Company, the effective response was 301(70.8%). Data was analyzed by SPSS15.0 software with descriptive analysis, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and spearman correlation analysis. The results of this study disclosed: (1) the total mean value of cancer health information needs was 3(4 point Likert Scale), the top three was “information of diet therapy and diet prevention”, “information of prevention such as physical examination”, “the signs and symptoms of cancer”. (2) using factor analysis, we found 3 common factors whose cumulative variance reached 65.84%: (a)“health care of cancer” including 9 items and its variance 27.32%; (b)“medical information ”(like hospitals, doctors and treatments) including 5 items and its variance 23.15%; (c)“adjuvant information”(such as religion and traditional Chinese medicine) including 4 items and its variance 15.57%. (3) non-administrative staffs’need of health care of cancer higher than those of administrative staffs; higher need of adjuvant information among the married or older than 30-year-old people; the more numbers the staffs visited the outpatient clinics, the more needs of cancer health information they wanted as well as their family members, relatives and friends had experienced cancer disease before; positive correlation between cancer health information needs and searching/inquiry of cancer health information in the previous three months; whether had experienced cancer disease before is best predictor for cancer health information.(4) staffs’search for cancer health information online mostly aimed on self-health; the most difficult obstacles during searching cancer health information were to understand the information incomprehensively and whether the information was accurate as well as whether the information they really wanted. After finished this study, we hope it will lead to further research regarding how to increase the worksite staffs’frequent internet use of cancer health information and enhance their cancer health knowledge in the future.
