[ Abstract ]
The purpose of this study is to discuss the effects of exercise behavior education for children with heart ailments on study subjects’ social and psychological factors, exercise stages and amount of physical exercise. The quasiexperiment design is “one group pretest-posttest.” By means of judgment sampling, 4th grade to 6th grade children with heart ailments in Beitou Elementary School, Taipei City are selected as study subjects. 31 valid cases have completed the pretest-posttest. The structural questionnaire content of the study tool includes basic information, exercise scale, self-exercise benefit scale, self-exercise barrier scale, self-exercise efficiency scale, exercise stages, and 3-day physical activity record. The exercise behavior education adopts strategies for change by applying Transtheoretical Model, TTM to design an exercise behavior education plan for change including teaching activities and monthly visitations. Analysis is then conducted on the data obtained using SPSS for Windows 13.0. Statistical methods include descriptive statistical analysis, paired t-test, and Bowker’s test of symmetry.
Study results show that exercise behavior education significantly enhances study subejcts’ perceived exercise and self-exercise benefits and effectively increases the number of people engaged in regular exercise and the amount of physical exercise on weekends and the amount of 3-day medium-heavy exercise. It is therefore recommended that exercise behavior education covered in this study be introduced to other schools and outpatient departments.
